thank you

Thank you. Two words that you can never use enough. And since it’s Memorial Day, I thought a little “thank you” to those in the armed services would be appropriate.

As I have gotten to know the quilting community, I have been impressed with their incredible willingness to donate their time and work. Whenever there is a natural disaster (or one of the human-made type) a group of quilters gather to provide survivors with the care and warmth of a quilt. It may seem like a small gesture, but there is something so special about the personal touch that goes into creating a quilt. Just one person reaching out to another; letting them know they are not alone. Magic.

This Memorial Day, a friend introduced me to the Quilts of Valor Foundation. Their mission is to cover service members and veterans touched by war with comforting and healing quilts. Every year they select a quilt block pattern and collect blocks to be sewn into completed quilts by other volunteers. So this year I will be making some blocks to send to Quilts of Valor. If you would like to join in, here are the quilt block instructions.

And, yes, thank you!
