early bird gets the quilt …

As someone who grew up sewing clothing and accessories, the world of quilting has always seemed like a foreign country. The precision, the rules, those quarter inch seams?! But the color play did look like fun … and I could use a little work on my sewing precision …

So, I joined a block of the month club at a local quilt shop. The Button Box Early Bird Quilt group meets once a month at 8:30 on a Saturday morning. And in spite of getting up before my time, I am learning a lot. Not just about quilt patterns, and cutting straight lines, and sewing straight lines, and pressing lines straight; but, about “regular” sewing as well. And guess what, quilters and quilt shops aren’t actually that scary! As a matter of fact, some are downright lovely and the seeing that rainbow of cotton on the shelves is inspiring.

Follow along with us Early Bird Quilters as we complete our monthly quilt blocks. It’s great fun to see the different color schemes everyone has chosen and how the color placement affects the look of the block.

Surprise! I’m having fun with this!
