international year of the periodic table

Did you know this is the International Year of the Periodic Table? It’s the 150th anniversary of Dmitri Mendeleev’s discovery of the periodic system and its time to celebrate! As my contribution, I will be sewing mini quilts for the first 100 elements as my #the100dayproject.

I’ve decided on Alison Glass’ Kaleidoscope solids for my fabric, a semblance of a plan, and the will to learn. My goals are to reacquaint myself with the elements and practice sewing machine free-motion writing.

Here are a few of the first elements. Please follow along on instagram at etheldora_sews. And now, onward!
(Oh, the cigarette? I made that as a result of a visit to Chris Roberts Antieau’s gallery … explanation to follow!)
