starbucks redux …
or workin’ at the coffee shop (again)

Woot, I’ve been published! Well, an article I wrote for the Autumn issue of Altered Couture magazine was published. For their “Menswear Re-Do” series, I submitted a piece detailing how I transformed a discarded suit into a laptop sleeve … and to my delight, they published it!

Scouting our local thrift shops, I noticed a lot of men’s suits; fine wool business suits in great condition. It seems that casual Fridays and telecommuting have put more than a few of them out of work. But just because he isn’t wearing that suit to the office, doesn’t mean his computer laptop can’t travel to Starbucks in style. So I set off to put a cast-off suit back to work as a laptop sleeve!

To complete the sleeve, I “borrowed” one of my husband’s old dress shirts for the lining, a tie for the trim, and pulled some coordinating fabric from my stash for the rest.

The sleeve went off for a whirlwind book tour and photo shoot (okay, a couple of weeks in Southern California), and is now available for sale on etsy. And, of course, if you have an old suit (or other lonely article of clothing) languishing in the closet and would like to have it re-fashioned into a laptop sleeve or other bag, just drop me a note!
