dad’s going to have a ball …

Dad’s going to have a ball this Father’s Day … he’s already got enough ties!

In honor of the many, many Fathers’ Days he’s spent on the coaches’ bench and in the stands, this year we’re giving him a custom baseball with the kids’ baby pictures.

To make it, I dissassembled a cast-off baseball and used one half as a template. I scanned the template and a couple of favorite baby pix; then, through the magic of photoshop, an ink-jet printer, and t-shirt transfer paper, produced headshots of the kids on some white t-shirt jersey.

For the other half of the ball I used some scrap navy jersey. Quickly sewed the two halves together and … oops … then I took it apart … measured halfway points and carefully pinned it together and then sewed! (I could hear the calm voice of mom in my head … “if it’s worth doing, it’s worth doing right …”)

stitching complete

To finish, I used some red embroidery floss to make some mock stitching.

I think he’ll like it.

(And those old ties? I just saw a great pillow idea …)
